On January 23, an Indian documentary film successfully made it to the 96th Oscar nominations for best documentary, "To Kill a Tiger," directed by Canada-based Dehli-born filmmaker Nisha Pahuja.

"To Kill a Tiger” is a documentary film where Kiran, a 13-year-old born and raised in a small village in Jharkhand, India, doesn't return from the family wedding. Parents initiated a search for their daughter only to see her coming home stumbling helplessly, being a victim of the obnoxious deeds of the three villagers who gang-raped her into the jungle.

In this documentary, one can witness the battle against the law, the customs, the mindset, and the patriarchy. Ranjit (Kiran’s father) fought eye to eye against the culprits to serve justice to his beloved daughter Kiran. This is the story of the father, who stands as a pillar for his daughter, not only for dignity and justice but also for humanity.

His story caught the eye of the NGO “Srijan Foundation,” which works on the sustainability of men's and women's rights. They see Ranjit as an ordinary man with extraordinary journeys and battles and his sheer bravery to fight against all the odds.

India, a country where more than 31 thousand rape cases take place as per the 2021 statistics report and half of them were not reported, "To Kill a Tiger” brings focus to this existing issue, especially in the remote parts of the country where misogyny takes over justice.

As of now, this documentary film is not streaming on any platform. So we are looking forward to the updates regarding the streaming.
