Kareena Kapoor has been in the acting profession for almost 25 years and has made a name for herself, proving it to be an absolute icon and relevant even in her 40s. She proved to be a beacon light for many actors, breaking out of set forms that used to be set for actresses, where after marriage their careers were said to be in a halt, especially after having children. But here she is with her next movie release, Crew, which is said to be released this week.
While admitting to the ups and downs in her acting career with many of her flop films in a podcast with Ranveer Allahbadia, Kareena said, "I would cry myself to sleep for many nights. Why are my films not working? What is it that's happening because even people were like,'she's so good' but that one film, I just needed that one turn, which was not happening," further adding, "If it happened to anybody honestly, nobody would survive this."
Kareena admitted that Jab we met was her turning point in her career. Before that, she encountered many failures and had also been without any work for a whole year. Talking about the set challenges of the acting profession, she describes it as 'daunting', ‘demanding,‘ and'selfish. Further on, we talk about how there is a lack of empathy and support for actors in their tough times. She said, “There is no room to feel any emotion. You have to make sure you are just being a perfect star. I may have had a fight with my mother or son, and I might be feeling terrible, and so many other things could go wrong at that time, but you just have to be in front of the camera, and that’s what makes the profession demanding. Somebody could be dying, but if you’re in front of the camera, That’s it,"
She further added, “No matter if you are dying with a 102 fever, there is nobody with you; they don’t care. If you have to give a shot, you have to give a shot. What you are feeling inside, nobody understands. How much will someone understand? There is no sick leave in this profession.”
The actress admitted to not giving up on these challenges and pushing herself to do more. “The hunger should constantly be there, and you must have this feeling, ‘I can do that.’ The day I stop feeling this, I will be done. That fire and hunger are still there,” she added.
The actress has worked on over 70 movies since her debut movie 'Refugee ‘in her career span of 25 years, and fans couldn't wait to see more of her magic on screen.
